We love edgy prints from Motel Clothing. We love them so much that we would probably spend our entire paychecks on their stuff alone if we could. Motel offers a large selection of t-shirts, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, jackets, and cardigans in a variety of prints that can be dressed up or down and are a must-have for any occassion. For fall, we’re obsessed with their Autumn Leaves Vest Dress (£30.00), which looks amazing with a black cardi and riding boots.
Check out www.motelrocks.com and browse these reasonably priced garments. Also check out www.asos.com, who also carries Motel Clothing, and is offering 25% off until October 21 with promo code ASOSGRAZIA.
It’s time for Sephora’s Friends & Family discount! Use promo code FF2009 at checkout at www.sephora.com and receive 20% off your entire purchase! That means you can get one of our favorite things, Tarte’s holiday palette, this year called Treasure Chest, for $41.60! Like $52 wasn’t already a steal!
This offer is going on until November 2nd and applies to anything on Sephora.com.
For this palette and I, it was love at first sight. I knew I had to have it, but did I want to drop $65 on a palette? It wouldn’t have been the first time. After weeks of debating, I finally gave in to my urges and picked it up at Sephora’s SoHo store.
Left to right, Dior’s Jazzclub Palette in Smoky Jazz includes black cream eyeliner, brow powder, a matte dark grey shadow, an iridescent olive-colored shadow, an iridescent silver shadow, and a glittery white shadow (or “top coat” as the palette labels it.) It also includes a double-ended sponge applicator and a double-ended angle brush and smudge brush.
Two downfalls of this palette: the liner is not creamy; it is chunky (as illstrated in the above photo.) The “top coat” shadow is also waaaaay too glittery for my taste. So I’ll use a different liner and a different shadow for my highlight, no big deal. Other than those two things, I love this palette. The shadows apply smoothly and have great pigmentation, not to mention they flatter my eye color. And the packaging, inspired by Dior’s Jazzclub clutch, is super cute.
There are a multitude of ways to wear this palette, but for this look, I used the silver shadow on my lid, the olive shadow in my crease, the dark grey shadow on my outer corner, and the white “top coat” on my inner corner.
The verdict? This palette gives us a great smokey eye that can be worn day or night and is totally glam. Like I said, I can get over the two downfalls because I love the colors and the look so much. I will go as far as to say that this palette is a must-have for fall. Go go get it!
I was pretty bummed when Hard Candy went out of business. At least, I assume they went out of business. I researched and could never get a definitive answer. All I know is that their stuff went 75% off on their website and Sephora.com and then they were gone. So I was totally excited to hear that Hard Candy was being re-branded… by Wal-Mart. Great cosmetics at Wal-Mart prices? Sounded great to me.
The Wal-Mart in my area FINALLY started carrying the brand and I was so excited to see a HUGE Hard Candy display in the cosmetics aisle. There are seriously so many products available… I was overwhelmed! Glitter shadows, shadow quads, baked shadow duos, baked bronzers, funky colored liners, lipstick, lipgloss, nail polish (with those adorable plastic rings)… I could go on and on. I chose to try baked blush in Honeymoon (a reasonable $7), an iridescent pinky peach that can be applied wet or dry and looked absolutely gorgeous.
Sorry Hard Candy, but I am sadly disappointed. Your Punk Palette and nail polish in Hick are in my regular rotation, but these products are clearly not up to the same standard as the original Hard Candy.

Swatched dry (left) and wet (right) + Honeymoon baked blush.
If I swatch this with my finger, it goes on smoothly but is barely pigmented (applying it wet doesn’t help the pigmentation.) If I try to apply with a brush, the product will not stay in my brush. Hardcore fallout. It doesn’t even show up on my face because I can’t even get it on the brush long enough to get there. I’m sure there’s a way one could finagle their way around this, like applying in 100 times over, but, should I have to? I get that it was only $7 and that it was from Wal-Mart, but I had such high hopes for this collection and this color looked so gorgeous in the pan. I can’t help but be disappointed.
All in all, I won’t judge the brand by this one product, but I don’t know if I’d take the chance on trying something else. I will say, though, that the colors of the baked shadow duos are brilliant. If they apply well, then they’re definitely a steal because I think they’re only $5. Go go to Wal-Mart and check out Hard Candy for yourself. Have better luck with another Hard Candy product?
