I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with OPI’s Alice in Wonderland inspired collection. Mostly because there are only 4 shades, and two of them are red. I really dislike red nail polish on me. But Mad as a Hatter looked fun and interesting, so I picked it up.

Last fall when OPI released it’s France collection, I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I could not see myself wearing most of the collection. Reds and purples are generally not my thing. However, one shade caught my eye: You Don’t Know Jacques!

You Don’t Know Jacques! is a gorgeous taupe color that goes with just about everything in my wardrobe but isn’t too dark. I was in love!  I had never seen such a color before.  I literally wore this polish all the time and hardly ever deviated from it. My fear was that this polish would be discontinued after the fall/winter ‘08 season, but I was happy to discover that OPI did not discontinue this color and is still available for purchase at any OPI retailer. I was even happier to find that this summer, a new formula of my favorite nail lacquer had been introduced: MATTE.

I had admired matte nail color since discovering Knock Out Cosmetics, but to mix matte with You Don’t Know Jacques! was a dream come true.

As illustrated by the photos, YDKJ original and matte formulas look strikingly similar in the bottle but very different when applied.  I love how classy the matte formula is when applied.  What’s not classy is the fact that since you can’t use a top coat (unless you purchase Flatte Top from Knock Out Cosmetics, $19) with this polish, it chips off SO much easier.

Two days ago, I discovered the newest collection from OPI: Suede.  This collection features 6 well-known shades with a suede finish.  One of these shades is, you guessed it, You Don’t Know Jacques!

I absolutely adore this formula and would whether YDKJ were a part of the collection or not.  The pictures hardly do it justice; this collection is a must-have.  As an observation, both the suede and matte finishes of YDKJ seem to have lost the grey tone of the original formula and appear to be more medium taupe than dark taupe.  And FYI, this formula has a satin sheen to it and therefore cannot be used with a traditional top coat.

Since it’s debut, the color has been replicated all across the nail brand spectrum, from Essie to Ulta Professional.  Whether you rock the original, matte, or suede finishes, You Don’t Know Jacques! is a must have for this fall season.  Go go get it!
